giantcradle asked avatar-parallels: Why do you think Tarrlok decided to kill them both instead of “start a new life” with Amon? My perspective of Tarrlok is kind of changed from the last two episodes.
This is my absolute favorite part of the finale; The Tarrlok/Noatak storyline. Tarrlok refers to their childhood before they discovered they were waterbenders as “The good years.” Everything was brighter, but all that changed when they discovered they were waterbenders. Their father set a path to them to path; a path they thought they escaped from, but ended up being there in different ways. Both had created new identities for themselves in the city, Tarrlok is a representative of the Northern Water Tribe Councilman while Noatak became Amon and was a leader of the Anti-Bending Revolution. Both have high positions that have affected the citizens in Republic City so greatly. If you rewatch the episodes now, you can see how linked they are. In “The Voice in The Night” Tarrlok didn’t really try to stop Korra from facing Amon. In “And The Winner Is…” He proposes the council to let the arena be open since he wants Bei Fong gets the blame if it fails (which he was hoping it would) then Amon/Noatak attacked the Pro-Bending arena. In “When Extremes Meet” though Amon wasn’t in the episode, Tarrlok was a representation of what Amon was trying to represent -the oppression of benders to non-benders since the innocent non-benders would be into prison (as Tarrlok claims they were equalists) In “Out of The Past” They finally meet, Tarrlok uses bloodbending to defend himself but this does not affect Noatak/Amon since he was clearly a more powerful bender and led to his own brother “taking” away his bending. So Tarrlok concludes that he is Amon’s brother because the sensation was similar to how his own brother bloodbended him during his childhood. Another thing is, Tarrlok never changed his name, so Amon HAD to know all these years that his little brother became the councilman of the citu. I’d just like to point out that Korra actually links these two together; Tarrlok was discovered to be a bloodbender and captured Korra while Amon was discovered to be a bender -all the years that took to build everything they worked for were all ruined by the Avatar.
Fate really did cause them to meet once again. I can say that Tarrlok realized that they have had enough. That moment on the boat made him think that life will never be the same again, they both turned out to be Yakone’s tools of revenge. Imagine, only two brothers *could* almost destroy Republic City. Them being alive would still cause even more damage. They already started a new life when they came to the city, escaping to start a new one was too much. He even said “Put an end to this sad story.” Tarrlok was clearly tired with the turn of events in his and Noatak’s life. So he had to end it right there, since it will never be like “The good old days.”

Okay, I’m sorry but once I saw that someone had made an Amon mask for Skyrim, I knew I would have to do this gif sometime. Ever since the last episode and what happened to Lin, I’ve wanted to do this myself and damn was this ever satisfying to set up.
